What Belay Is
Belay is a pregnancy and postpartum companion app designed for partners and dads. It provides:
- Weekly educational content about pregnancy and newborn care
- An AI guide called The Ranger for questions and support
- Practical tools (mental health check-ins, mood tracking, emergency resources)
- Push notifications with reminders and encouragement
What Belay Is Not
Belay is not a medical device, medical service, or substitute for professional healthcare.
- The Ranger is an AI companion powered by a large language model. It provides general educational information, not medical advice. It can make mistakes.
- Weather Check (mental health screening) is an informal self-check adapted from validated instruments. It is not a clinical diagnosis. If you are in crisis, please contact the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) or your local emergency services.
- Emergency Beacon provides general emergency reference information (warning signs, phone numbers). It is not a substitute for calling your doctor, midwife, or emergency services. When in doubt, always seek professional medical care.
Always consult your doctor, midwife, or other qualified healthcare provider with any medical questions or concerns.
Who Can Use Belay
- You must be at least 18 years old to use Belay.
- You must provide accurate information (due date, birth date) for the app to work correctly.
- One account per person. Don't share your account credentials.
Your Account
- You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
- You are responsible for all activity under your account.
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings. This permanently removes all your data.
Acceptable Use
Please don't:
- Use Belay for any illegal purpose
- Attempt to access other users' data
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or tamper with the app
- Use automated systems to interact with The Ranger (bots, scrapers)
- Submit abusive, threatening, or harmful content to The Ranger
- Misrepresent The Ranger's responses as professional medical advice to others
AI-Generated Content
- The Ranger's responses are generated by AI (Anthropic's Claude) and may contain inaccuracies, outdated information, or errors.
- Responses are personalized based on your pregnancy week and conversation history, but The Ranger does not know your specific medical situation.
- The Ranger is designed to defer to healthcare professionals and will encourage you to consult your provider for medical questions.
- We continuously improve The Ranger's responses but cannot guarantee their accuracy or completeness.
Your Content
- You own the messages you send and the data you enter.
- By using the app, you grant us permission to process your messages through our AI provider to generate responses, and to store your data as described in our Privacy Policy.
- We do not use your content to train AI models.
Subscriptions and Payments
- Belay offers a free tier and an optional Premium subscription ("Summit Pass").
- Subscriptions are billed through Apple's App Store. Payment is processed by Apple, not by us directly.
- Free trials automatically convert to paid subscriptions unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
- Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled in your Apple ID settings at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time: go to your device's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
- Refunds are handled by Apple per their refund policy.
- We reserve the right to change pricing with reasonable notice. Price changes do not affect your current billing period.
Availability
- We aim to keep Belay available and working, but we can't guarantee 100% uptime.
- Some features require an internet connection (The Ranger, cloud sync). Core content (weekly guides, Emergency Beacon) works offline.
- We may update, change, or discontinue features with reasonable notice.
Termination
- You can stop using Belay at any time by deleting your account and uninstalling the app.
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice when possible.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- Belay is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
- We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) the app, including but not limited to: medical decisions made based on app content, data loss, service interruptions, or AI-generated content.
- Our total liability to you for any claim related to the app shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app. Continuing to use Belay after changes means you accept the updated terms.
